In the world of professional motorsports, nobody better personifies persistence and determination in the face of adversity than Davey Hamilton. Hamilton has racing in his blood. His father, a legend on Midwest dirt tracks, has raced for decades and has yet to hang up his helmet. Davey rose quickly to stardom from many of the same dirt tracks his father ran to the IZOD™ INDYCAR Series, where he has since competed in 11 Indianapolis 500s over the past 16 years. Now, the owner of several successful racing teams across numerous sanctioning bodies, Davey counts his own son, D.J. as one of the talented drivers in the Davey Hamilton Apex Racing stable.
In addition to coaching his son through the ranks, Davey co-owns an entry in the Firestone™ Indy Lights Series with Kingdom Racing. This partnership has resulted in one pole position and one race win. Aside from competing in the IZOD™ INDYCAR Series, Davey remains quite involved in racing supermodifieds where he frequently wins. In 2008, Davey was part of a group that purchased the famed Terre Haute Action Track in western Indiana, adding “track owner” to his impressive resume.
In racing, Davey has most notably competed in 50 IZOD™ INDYCAR Series events, including the 11 Indy 500's already mentioned. In his most successful season of 1998, Davey finished 4th three times including the Indianapolis 500, captured a 3rd at Walt Disney World Speedway and was runner-up at Atlanta. This placed him second in the final season Championship standings, making the second year in a row he’d achieved that feat. In 2001, Davey suffered traumatic injuries to his feet in a crash at Texas Motor Speedway. This became a turning point in his life, from which he battled back with unequaled resilience to do what many said he would never do again by returning to competition in the IZOD™ INDYCAR Series in 2007. Throughout the paddock, no celebrity driver is more friendly or approachable and it can be said with absolute certainty that his heart beats for racing, most of all the fans.
Hamilton is also well known for his versatility. Outside the car, Davey serves as the color commentator for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network as well as during Indy Lights television broadcasts. But where many fans have had the pleasure of meeting him in person is riding shotgun with him in the back seat of the Indy Racing Experience 2-seater. This program delivers the thrills and sensations of driving a real open wheel racecar and travels from track to track following the INDYCAR Series schedule giving fans the opportunity to ride with a professional racecar driver around the same tracks where they compete. Davey Hamilton and sponsor HP are the faces of that amazing program, providing technology equipment and hospitality programs at every IZOD™ INDYCAR Series event. |
